Here’s a delicious Pepper Steak recipe—a savory

Here’s a delicious Pepper Steak recipe—a savory, slightly spicy dish with tender beef, bell peppers, and a rich sauce. Perfect served over rice or noodles.

Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the steak and sauce:

  • 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2–3 bell peppers (red, green, yellow), sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1–2 tsp freshly ground black pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced (optional)

For the sauce:

  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional for depth)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)

Instructions

1. Marinate the Beef

  1. In a bowl, mix sliced beef with 2 tbsp soy sauce and 1 tbsp cornstarch.
  2. Let it sit for 15–20 minutes while preparing vegetables.

2. Cook the Beef

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large pan or wok over high heat.
  2. Add beef in batches, sear quickly until browned but not fully cooked. Remove and set aside.

3. Sauté Vegetables

  1. Heat remaining oil in the same pan.
  2. Add onions, garlic, and ginger; sauté 2–3 minutes.
  3. Add bell peppers and stir-fry another 2–3 minutes—they should stay slightly crisp.

4. Make the Sauce

  1. In a small bowl, mix beef broth, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar.
  2. Pour over the vegetables in the pan.
  3. Add the beef back in and stir to combine.
  4. Stir in cornstarch slurry and cook 1–2 minutes until sauce thickens.

5. Season and Serve

  • Add freshly ground black pepper (generously—it’s called “pepper steak” for a reason!).
  • Taste and adjust salt or soy sauce if needed.
  • Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

💡 Tips for Perfect Pepper Steak:

  • Slice beef thinly against the grain for tenderness.
  • High heat and quick cooking keep vegetables crisp and beef juicy.
  • Freshly ground black pepper makes the dish aromatic and slightly spicy.

If you want, I can also give a Nigerian-style pepper steak version with extra spices and chili peppers for that authentic West African kick.
